Slugs & snails

Just before Christmas we had our 20 week scan and found out that we are having a boy. I was in shock when we were told even though I'd had an inkling as this pregnancy has been so different to the first. One noticeable thing is that my hair is growing really slooowly. I can shave my legs and not have stubble for days. This sounds great - and it is - but my nails are not growing either and I've been nibbling them so they look awful. I also seem to be suffering from symphysis pubis dysfunction which not only sounds like an STD (it's not, I promise) but is making me walk like John Wayne and yelp if I cross my legs.

I couldn't wait to buy a teeny babygro for the baby and my first trip was to the Baby Gap sale. I'd never noticed before (because I'm usually preoccupied with girls clothes) but the ratio of boys to girls clothes appeared to be about 30/70 and the boys clothes were all blue with the odd bit of brown. And lots of plaid. I found the same in Pumpkin Patch although they seemed worse with a 20/80 ratio of insipid blues with applique designs. It does seem to be slim pickings for boys and even slimmer if you want something other than blue.

I've got the sad task of getting all the bags of K's baby clothes down from the loft and sorting through them for anything unisex, anything fancy enough for an NCT sale and the rest will go to charity or to my friends. Two of my local friends are also pregnant and we are all due within a few weeks of each other, (our partners think it's some kind of conspiracy) they both have boys already so if one of them has a girl then we plan to swap old clothes. Neither of them chose to find out the sex at the scan so I won't know if I'll be getting any clothes until the last minute!

In the meantime I'll be keeping my eye out for any nice, reasonably priced boys stuff and as usual scouring the charity shops too. I love these designs from Threadless but sadly the shipping from the USA costs more than the clothes themselves...

K is being very sweet with the bump, kissing it and saying "hello my brother" to it. She even told her cousin to "leave my brother alone!" when she had her hands on my tum. Of course when the baby is actually here I'm sure it will be a different story.

I did end up getting one thing for the baby. When I was in Liberty with my gift voucher burning a hole in my pocket, I chose this Karen Radford print for the kids room. Now I just need yet another frame and some wall space.
